Responsibilities

We have an ongoing need for a Chief Engineer to support the DARPA Tactical Technology Office (TTO) in Arlington, VA. 

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Providing a range of support within your area of expertise and experience, to the Government Program Manager, in developing and implementing an ongoing Science and Technology (S&T) program
  • Responsible for engineering management of activities related to the design, procurement, development, maintenance, and closeout of the program.
  • Provide expertise and leadership to ensure the successful completion of design and execution of the program in compliance with the approved scope, schedule, and budget and with the level of quality expected
  • Work closely with the Government team throughout the life-cycle of the program, including coordinating with the upper management of all stakeholders, to develop technical solutions and strategies
  • Respond to official requests for information and other tasks from Government clients and stakeholders
  • Advise Government clients on incoming technical proposals and white papers
  • Discuss new ideas for Government programs with researchers
  • Track the progress of contracted researchers on their Government programs, including independent testing, and eventual technology transition to end users
  • Ensure a proper understanding of the customer’s technical needs
  • Provide executive technical oversight for the entire program
  • Review acquisition related documents
  • Participating in:
    • Development and engineering design reviews and readiness reviews
    • Management of verification efforts for key performance objectives
    • Ground testing, flight tests or simulations\
    • Post-test analysis activities and review and analysis of test data
  • Prepare briefs and meeting minutes
  • Review and provide recommendations for CDRLs and other documents
  • Participate in key intra- and interagency meetings
  • 10 – 15% travel may be required
  • Work will be performed on-site

Qualifications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Position requires an active Top Secret (TS) security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) eligibility
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree preferably in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or a related field
  • 15 years’ experience with a minimum of 5 years in a lead or chief engineering role
  • Demonstrated integrated engineering leadership
  • Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary teams on large, complex, multi-phase programs
  • Demonstrated Experience with complex system architectures
  • Demonstrated experience with missile systems, space systems, and propulsion
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team environment, interact with performers and customer senior-level management
  • Working knowledge of the Department of Defense research and development and acquisition processes
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills


DESIRED EXPERIENCE:  

  • Advanced degree in a relevant technical discipline or field
  • Experience with complex system architectures
  • Experience with aerodynamics and sensors
  • Prior experience as a SETA
  • Prior experience at DARPA
  • Prior experience with programs related to national defense
  • Experience preparing and presenting technical and programmatic information to diverse audiences
  • Developing plans, budgets, and schedules

One must have good written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills. Ability to follow directions is a must. Applicants must be able to work well alone and as part of a team. A Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one will be required. U.S. Citizenship required.
