    Responsibilities

    As directed by NAVSEA 05Z5, the component power systems engineer shall:

    • Oversee technical reviews of submarine requirements, specifications, system designs and design criteria.
    • Provide engineering assessment and development of electrical, mechanical, and control system designs inclusive of the generator, turbine, magnetic bearing, and voltage regulator
    • Collaborate with equipment suppliers, design agents, shipbuilders, and other departments within the Navy to provide professional oversight of design, testing, installation, and operation of submarine propulsion machinery.
    • Interface with supporting engineering organizations such as Naval Reactors to obtain specialized technical support.
    • Compile and adjudicate all NAVSEA comments, and provide complete technical response in draft memo, transmittal, or letter format to the submittal to the applicable OHIO Class Replacement
    • Program propulsion plant system, component, control systems, software and turbine generator design manager
    • Provide support for OHIO Class Replacement Program propulsion plant system, component and power generation meetings, telecons and VTCs
    • Record notes, agreements and actions; and
    • Provide draft trip report to the applicable OHIO Class Replacement Program propulsion plant system, component, control system, software, and turbine generator system design manager.

    This effort will involve frequent communication with NAVSEA 05Z5 personnel. Communication with the propulsion plant design agents, technical warrant holder, the Navy Nuclear Propulsion Directorate, and equipment suppliers is the responsibility of NAVSEA 05Z5 personnel, and contractor personnel shall not communicate independently with the propulsion plant design agents, the Navy Nuclear Propulsion Directorate, and equipment suppliers.

    Qualifications

    A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is required (Master preferred). At least eight years of turbine generators and control systems experience is required.

     

    One must have good written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills. Ability to follow directions is a must. Applicants must be able to work well alone and as part of a team. A Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one will be required. U.S. Citizenship required.
