Responsibilities

GENERAL SUMMARY:

 

The Senior Technician position will support shipboard NSWCPD Code 514 testing efforts in support of the DDG HM&E Mid-Life Upgrades Program. The candidate will have experience as an electrical technician and the ability to troubleshoot control systems with the use of system documentation and electrical schematics. They will be expected to:

  • Lead shipboard test and troubleshooting efforts;
  • Complete assigned tasking, even if doing so requires more time than expected;
  • Support technical leads within Code 514; and
  • Provide documented status updates on a regular basis.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a shipboard test and troubleshooting evolution;
  • Troubleshoot control systems with the use of system documentation and electrical schematics;
  • Provide test support for all variants of fielded systems at LBES and shipboard;
  • Provide shipboard software and hardware installation support of all variants of fielded systems at LBES and shipboard;
  • Provide documented status updates on a regular basis;
  • Act as a liaison between shipboard test team, ship’s force, test team and technical leads back in Philadelphia;
  • Maintain personal source of information between jobs and tasking; and
  • Aid in test procedure edits, development and implementation. 

MISCELLANEOUS:

  • Regular expected travel frequency 30-50%.
  • Professional written and oral skills are required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  •  Must have a valid US passport or the ability to obtain one upon position acceptance.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma and a minimum of fourteen years of experience as an electrical technician.
  • Experience tracing signals and diagnosing or isolating cause for electrical failures.
  • Experience with grounded and ungrounded systems.

TECHNICAL SUBSET SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Understands electronic control systems and how they interface with sensors, pumps, and other mechanical and electronic equipment.
  • Advanced electrical troubleshooting skills to include the ability to use a digital multimeter.
  • Advanced electrical principals to include understanding the difference between current, voltage and resistance as well as how to effectively troubleshoot circuits containing them.
  • Ability to use an oscilloscope and signal generator.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Proficiency with a personal computer (PC).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (especially Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • The ability to learn new PC applications as needed.
  • Familiarity with embedded control systems both centralized and decentralized.
  • Reasonable problem solving ability.
  • Attention to detail and meticulous logging of testing, troubleshooting steps, and findings.

DESIRED ADVANCED SKILL SETS:

  • Advanced computer skills to include use of HyperTerminal, Putty, or an equivalent serial interface.
  • Ability to use a VME Bus analyzer.

One must have good written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills. Ability to follow directions is a must. Applicants must be able to work well alone and as part of a team. A Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one will be required. U.S. Citizenship required.
