Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY:

 

This is a Technician position supporting the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD). This position is physically located on the Naval Operations Base in San Diego, CA. This individual will provide technical, training and administrative support to: Readiness Assist Visits (RAV); CBRD detection equipment; Radiological Containment (RADCON); sustainment to chemical and biological detection consumables; and sustainment to Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS)/Enhanced Counter-Proliferation Capability (eCPC) onboard U.S. Navy vessels.

 

DUTIES:

 

Assisting the Government Subject Matter Expert and/ or the assigned contractor CBR Technician in: conducting Collective Protection System (CPS), CB Detection, Decontamination, Joint Biological Agent Identification and Diagnostic System (JBAIDS), eCPC/VBSS, and RADIAC assessments during CBR RAVs onboard deploying ships; providing necessary consumables to ensure ships are deployment ready; conducting crew CBR system training; providing distant support on all CBRD related matters; and following-up with the ships 30 days Post-RAV to document and update equipment status.

 

Assist in troubleshooting and repairing Improved Point Detection System (IPDS) and Improved Point Detection System Life-cycle Replacement (IPDS LR) units, retrieving data from ships, maintaining records of IPDS lab functions, maintaining inventories and shipping documents of all IPDS detection units repaired and shipped to/from lab, and ensuring the lab is operating within the constraints of NSWCDD’s Radiation –Permit.

 

Support the Radiological Mobile Survey and Remediation Team lead and the assigned contractor CBR Technician to conduct shipboard RADCON assessments during the RAV, conduct Fleet Contamination Technician training, and update the ship’s RADCON book.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Incumbent is regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock. Work may require wearing protective clothing such as a hard hat and steel-toed shoes.

Qualifications

A minimum two to five years related Navy experience is preferred. Demonstrated experience with maintenance and training of shipboard systems. VBSS Boarding Team experience preferred.

 

Training certifications or equivalent experience in the following preferred: forklift driver, web-based inventory management (CMRPO), HAZMAT shipping, CBRD shipboard operations, radiation material and transportation (RAM), Assistant Radiation Safety Officer (ARSO).

 

TRAVEL REQUIRED: 25% to 50%

 

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Incumbent often stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. Work involves bending, stooping, and working in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. May have to lift and carry items that weigh up to 70 lbs. Heavier items are moved with material handling equipment, or with assistance from other workers.

 

One must have good written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills. Ability to follow directions is a must. Applicants must be able to work well alone and as part of a team. A Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one will be required. U.S. Citizenship required.
