Qualified candidate will be involved with:

- Design and development of Ships Installation Drawings (SIDs);

- On-site engineering functions, combat systems support, the update and correction of selected record drawings;

- Perform calculations and design analysis, drawing schedules, ship check reports, logistics support, weight and moment data;

- Other technical data and specifications necessary to accomplish a full range of alterations, repairs, and improvements to naval ships.


Academic Requirements:  All personnel must be graduates of a high school, trade, or industrial school, or correspondence school where, as a minimum, credits were received in all of the following:  algebra, plane geometry, trigonometry, drafting, and physics. Completion of 18 semester credits of formal education in an engineering related curriculum above the high school level such as calculus, physics, metallurgy, structures, internal communication (IC) circuits, etc., may be substituted for one year of general work experience.

  1. Specialized Experience Requirements: Minimum of three years creditable experience including - Responsibility for preparation of and modification of engineering drawings. Make engineering investigations to gather data for use in plan preparation, engineering reports, test agenda, etc. Responsible for making necessary calculations, diagrams, and analysis to develop plans, reports, etc., proposed by him/herself or others. 
  2. General Experience Requirements: Minimum of two years creditable experience including:  Progressively more difficult structural, mechanical, electrical, or electronic drafting with a corresponding decrease in direct supervision. 
  3. Minimum of two and a half years design drafting involving judgment in recommending alternative designs or materials and in planning or conceiving engineering systems, structures, machinery, electrical, or electronic installations in order to satisfy performance, economy, safety, size, strength, durability, productivity, and maintainability factors.
  4. Minimum of two and a half years technical responsibility for workability, productivity, economy of design, and a good background knowledge of new practices relative to manufacturing and shipboard installation techniques.
  5. Minimum of one year layout responsibility for actual drafting layout work.
  6. Minimum of two years Naval progressive design experience in the naval ship design field within the last five years involving design and working plan development for construction, conversion, modernization or alteration of U.S. Naval Ships (does not include maritime ship design) in the specialty required herein.

One must have exceptional written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to follow directions is a must. Applicants must be able to work well alone and as part of a team. A Security Clearance or the ability to obtain security clearance is required. U.S. Citizenship required.
